neo-Luddite

neo-Luddite
Judy from Austin asks Amby “what is a neo-Luddite?”
The short answer is “Most of the folks in my email address book.”

Wikipedia says “neo-Luddite” is most often deployed by advocates of technology to describe persons or organizations that resist technological advances.

Mass production has put two very complex machines , Fords and PCs into the hands of idiots, What can I say?

email/spam

This is the very latest info i have been able to gather on the rapidly changing email/spam problem. I have listed the best practices below, relating to group email
#1 do not spam! If any of your sent messages receive a “report as spam” citation from anyone you could be in trouble. In other words it is not the content but the beholder that defines spam. So do not use the spam button lightly. Also do not tempt others with FWD’s. attachments, etc, etc.

#2 be sure that your address book contains all of the names you want mail from

Good old days

August 10, 2007 by AMBROSE

Travel in the twin cities is a little slow, what with a major bridge out. Twins fans should have demanded road repair instead of a new stadium.

Are the gussets rusty in the old stadium?

Anyhow I found this, written by my greatgrandfather in 1882, about life near Owatonna about 1860
“We had to take our wheat by ox cart sixty-five miles away. It took a whole week before we got home again, but at that time, that was all right, since it meant money. Whoever had a hundred bushels of grain needed three weeks to get everything to market. How much easier it is today! Now we take our grain to market and return in one day”

If quitters never win, and winners never quit, who came up with, “Quit while you’re ahead”?

. Would a fly without wings be called a walk? (LOVE this one!!)

Atheism is a non-prophet organization

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, “Where’s the self-help section?” She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose

What if there were no hypothetical questions

DAVID

August 8, 2007 by AMBROSE

A few days ago I bloged about DAVID who was killed by a storm sewer in St Paul. The local media did not cover the story to my satisfaction so I turned to the blogs. I found that the same reporters who wrote for the media, wrote equally poor blogs.
Then today I found SEWER PROBE

Framing

August 6, 2007 by AMBROSE

I did this post a few days before the bridge thing , it’s about framing ideas.
http://pegassus.wordpress.com/2007/07/27/framing/

Right now the media hangs on every word from any guy with a hard-hat and a pocket protector.
This will change as the blame game heats up. In this world, today, nothing just happens ; instead someone goofs. But we all get to pay …… stay tuned

Hindenberg crashed and burned

August 4, 2007 by AMBROSE

The Mtnneapolis bridge thing adds one more “I remember the day” story to my long list. The first one was when the Hindenberg crashed and burned, or did it burn and crash? I think they are still debating that one.
It happened 1n 1937 and was reported live by radio and then later by newspaper complete with black and white photos. This incident marked a big change in aircraft design, and likewise maybe our bridge will advance the science of crossing rivers

Bridge

August 3, 2007 by AMBROSE

Relax: the same people who said all was well in New Orleans before the big storm are now telling us its ok to cross a bridge. Go figure. I think I will stay in bed.
